A woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of her elderly mother in south-east London.

Regina Edwards is accused of murdering Priscilla Edwards, 78, on or before February 21 this year.

The pensioner was found dead at an address in Kirkham Street in Plumstead.

Edwards appeared today via video link at Bromley Magistrates' Court, wearing a purple long-sleeved top, with her head bowed and eyes fixed downward.

The 52-year-old, of Plumbridge Street, Greenwich, remained silent for the duration of the hearing. Her solicitor Greg Stewart spoke on her behalf.

He confirmed Edwards's name, age and address but gave no indication of plea.

Chairwoman of the bench Linda Rodgers told the defendant she would be remanded in custody and would appear at the Old Bailey on February 25.

Several women, thought to be family members, watched proceedings from the court's public gallery
