David Beckham shared an angry selfie when he became stuck in traffic today as his “Mr Loophole” lawyer was in court trying to get a speeding charge against him thrown out.

The former England captain posted an Instagram story to his 51.1 million followers complaining that he was stuck in traffic as he lounged in the back of car.

Beckham, 43, who was wearing sunglasses and a grey beanie in the snap, was on his way to catch a Eurostar to Paris to join wife Victoria at fashion week.

Meanwhile, celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman – dubbed “Mr Loophole” - was representing him at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court.

Beckham’s lawyer claimed he was notified of his speeding offence too late to be legally prosecuted.

The former footballer, of Holland Park, west London, is accused of driving at 59mph in a 40mph zone in his Bentley on the A40 in Paddington shortly after 5.30pm on January 23.

Mr Freeman said there was "no issue" with the speed alleged but that the notice of intended prosecution arrived one day outside the statutory 14-day window, and was therefore "defective".

But District Judge Barbara Barnes ruled there was a case to answer and the trial went ahead and was ongoing at the magistrates' court on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Freeman is sometimes referred to as "Mr Loophole" and has represented many high-profile names who have been accused of driving offences. He revealed his methods in a booked called The Art of the Loophole.

A not-guilty plea to a charge of exceeding a 40mph speed limit in contravention of a local traffic order was entered on behalf of Beckham on August 17.
