A detective who stalked a Harrods shop assistant and offered to take her on holiday to Portugal has been sacked by the Met.

Dc James Petevinou, 49, harassed sunglasses sales assistant Rubab Javaid at the store over a two-month period last year. He asked if he could kiss her on the cheek and later said: “Why didn’t you call me?”

Ms Javaid told Westminster magistrates’ court in October last year that Petevinou was friendly during their first conversation, but became “creepy” and she began to dread going to work.

He was convicted of harassment without violence and was given a two-year restraining order banning him from entering Harrods or contacting Ms Javaid.

He lost an appeal against his conviction at Southwark crown court in May.

Petevinou, from Drayton Park, who was with the Met for 20 years, has been dismissed without notice after a special case hearing.
