A cyclist has been killed by a lorry near an industrial park in east London.

Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at around 3pm on Tuesday to reports of a collision involving a cyclist and lorry at Fairview Industrial Park, off Barlow Ray in Rainham.

The cyclist sustained serious injuries and despite the best efforts of medics he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police are currently trying to trace his next of kin.

Road closures remain in place and Scotland Yard warned motorists to avoid the area if possible.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, call 101 or message @MetCC  and quote 4000/19JAN.

To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
