Elephant and Castle station: Emergency services descend on busy Tube station after man ‘sprayed with substance’

Emergency services descended on a busy London Tube station this morning after a man was “sprayed with a substance” in a robbery in front of shocked commuters.

Police officers, paramedics and firefighters all rushed to Elephant and Castle station shortly after 9.30am on Wednesday.

The man was attacked while he was on the Tube, police said. The suspects remain at large.

Images posted online show scores of emergency services vehicles at the scene and police tape surrounding the station.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to a report of a robbery.

He told the Standard: "BTP officers attended Elephant and Castle station at 9.33am on following a report of a robbery on board a Tube.

"The victim, a man, reported he had been sprayed with a substance.

"He was treated at the scene by paramedics; the victim suffered a minor irritation to his face. Officers remain at the scene and efforts to locate the suspects are ongoing."
