A young man is being treated in hospital after he was stabbed in south-east London.

The man, 25, was slashed in the torso and also suffered a head injury in an attack in Erith on Friday evening.

Police and paramedics were called to Hurstwood Avenue just after 8pm.

The man remains in hospital in a stable condition, Scotland Yard said.

Neighbours said a large number of police officers descended on the suburban street and went door to door in search of the culprit.

One said on Facebook: “Police outside my house, looks like they found a weapon in the drain.

“Not allowed to leave in case of contamination of crime scene we were told.”

Police said they were not linking the attack to a shooting that took place just hours earlier in Erith.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers from Bexley CID are investigating.

“No arrests have been made and enquires continue.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
