The family of a teenager stabbed to death on New Year’s Eve today spoke of their devastation as they appealed for help to bring his killers to justice.

Meshak Cornelio, 18, was knifed in the chest at a friend’s flat in Enfield at 11.30am, and died later in hospital.

He is believed to have answered the door to his attackers who fatally wounded him before fleeing.

His brother Reece, 20, said: “We’re all trying to stay strong. It doesn’t feel real. He was a quiet person, a fun person. Everyone liked him.”

Mr Cornelio, known to friends as “Chak”, was one of five siblings. He was an avid music fan and keen rapper, and had trained as a plumber and electrician.

Five men were arrested after the attack. Three were charged with weapons offences. One man was released on bail and another remains under arrest in hospital.

The unconnected deaths took the number of fatal stabbings in London in 2017 to 80, of which 26 involved teenagers, the highest figure in a decade.
