This is the first picture of an 18-year-old who was ambushed and stabbed to death during the daytime in north-west London.

Saif Abdul Magid, said to be “kind-hearted and funny”, was knifed in the neck in a bus-stop ambush by a group of men at 3.50pm on Friday in Tanfield Avenue, Neasden.

The former Capital City Academy student is the 14th teenager knifed to death on the capital’s streets this year.

It was the first of two murders in the capital in 36 hours. A man was found battered to death in an alleyway after leaving a pub in Hounslow in the early hours on Sunday.

Friends and family last night gathered in Neasden for a candlelit vigil in Saif’s memory, taking prayers in the road where his body was found.

They have set up a JustGiving page to raise money for a memorial well to provide clean water for a village in the family’s native Sudan.

Adnan Davod, 20, a former gang member who set up youth charity Make A Change, spoke out as tributes were paid to his close friend Saif.

Mr Davod said: “There is no obvious reason for why violent murders are happening. It’s just become a trend. The people I have lost now is into the double digits.

"His whole family hurts. It’s almost impossible not to retaliate but everyone has to stay calm and come together. His mother requested that a well be built in his memory as a reflection of how much of a caring person he was. ”

A witness, who did not want to be named, claimed at least two people attacked Saif, stabbing him in the neck and leg in front of his terrified friends. He said: “It’s scary round here at the moment. The kids who hang out here are so young but lots have weapons.

“It was all over a fight that broke out in the high street the day before. I don’t know if Saif was involved in the fight but they thought he was. These kids just waited for him and jumped him to get their revenge.

“Saif was very quiet guy who would keep himself to himself.”

A school friend, 17, paid tribute to the aspiring footballer, saying: “He was a good guy, honestly, an amazing person to know. I can’t believe he was into anything dangerous.”

A statement on the JustGiving page said: “We all knew Saif as a kind-hearted, funny and honest person who would always make you smile.”

A 15-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday has been bailed.
