Detectives have welcomed lengthy prison terms imposed on five men after an inquiry which led to the recovery of four illegal firearms, including a machine gun.

Khavi Chadee, Bradley Buchanan, Dyrell Nestor, David Komolafe and Adewole Adetunji, all from London, were given sentences ranging from six to nine years by a judge at Snaresbrook Crown Court yesterday.

All five men either admitted or were found guilty of conspiracy to supply a prohibited weapon after an intelligence-led police operation launched in 2011.

Buchanan, Chadee and Nestor were arrested in August last year at a car park in Chingford, where they had arranged to sell a firearm and ammunition for £7,000.

Komolafe and Adetunji, who were both identified as being involved in the sale of firearms at other points during the Metropolitan Police investigation, were arrested in August 2011 and June 2012 respectively.

During the inquiry, officers recovered four guns including a Mac 10 machine pistol.

Chadee, 26, of Grasmere Road, Tottenham, and Buchanan, 25, of Flexmere Road, also Tottenham, were both jailed for six years.

Nestor, 24, of Liverpool Road, Barnsbury, and Komolafe, 39, of Factory Lane, Tottenham, each received eight-year prison terms.

Adetunji, 44, of Bradmore Court, Enfield, was jailed for nine years after also being convicted of drugs and passport-related offences.

Detective Inspector Rob Murray, from the Met's Central Task Force, who led the operation, said: "There is no doubt these were dangerous individuals who had every intention of selling the firearms on to other criminals to commit serious offences, and I'm pleased they are now behind bars.

"The Met Police Central Task Force is committed to targeting criminal networks and ensuring weapons such as these are taken off our streets.

"The sentencing sends out a clear message to those involved in such crimes that we will do everything we can to pursue them and bring them to justice."
