Former Labour peer Lord Ahmed charged with sex offences

Former Labour Peer Lord Ahmed has been charged with sexual offences.

The 61-year-old was charged on Thursday with two counts of attempted rape and one count of indecent assault.

He was one of three men from Rotherham charged with sexual offences.

They were charged via postal requisition and are due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court on March 19.

Lord Ahmed joined the Labour Party in his teens. He became a JP and a councillor and was made a life peer in 1998.

Mohammed Farouq, 68, and Mohammed Tariq, 63, both from Rotherham, have also been charged.

Mr Farouq is charged with four counts of indecent assault and Mr Tariq is charged with two counts of indecent assault.
