Gang police are investigating after a man was knifed in the back and forehead at a Farringdon bus stop during the afternoon rush hour.

Scotland Yard today released a witness appeal following the attack, which happened in St John Street at about 5.20pm on July 2 and left the 22-year-old victim in hospital.

Officers found the injured man after being called to a fight at the bus stop, near the Rawstorne Street junction.

Now they want to trace the rider and passenger of a moped discovered abandoned in nearby Bevin Court.

The rider is described as a slim built black man wearing a black crash helmet and a light grey tracksuit, while the passenger is said to be a black woman with curly, shoulder-length hair in a black vest and leggings.

One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and bailed to return to a police station in late August.

Trident's Det Insp Glenn Butler said: "This was an incident that happened on a busy street during the rush hour. There would be a number of potential witnesses in the area at the time, and I ask for anyone with any information to come forward.

"Thankfully, the injuries were not serious, but could have been as a knife was used. I can assure witnesses that any information will be dealt with in the strictest confidence."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 020 8358 0711 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
