A knifeman is facing life behind bars today after he stabbed a teenager to death in a row on a basketball court in Finsbury Park.

Adrian Carpenter, 30, was found guilty of murder after fatally knifing 17-year-old Gary Scott who was on his way home from a friend’s 18th birthday party.

Mr Scott, from Tottenham, was stabbed during the argument with Carpenter and another man, Jermaine Reid, in Stroud Green in December last year.

The pair fled the scene, leaving the teenager bleeding on the ground.

Following today’s verdict, Mr Scott’s family said in a statement: “Our kids should be burying us, not us burying our kids. Too much young life is being lost."

Carpenter, of Victoria Road, north London, was convicted of murder by a jury following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court.

Reid, 28, also of Victoria Road, was found guilty of manslaughter and drug offences.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicola Wall, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, who led the investigation said: "This underlines the danger and risk involved in carrying knives.

“A young man has tragically lost his life."

Carpenter and Reid will be sentenced on July 21.
