A murder probe has been launched after a woman was found stabbed to death in the back garden of a house in south London.

Police rushed to Tunnel Avenue in Greenwich at 11.30am on Saturday to reports the victim’s body had been discovered.

The woman, aged in her 50s, appeared to have been stabbed, Scotland Yard revealed.

She was pronounced dead at the scene where a man, also in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The suspect is being held at a south London police station.

Police believe they know the identity of the woman and her next of kin are being informed, a spokesman said.

The incident is not thought to be domestic but detectives believe the victim knew the suspect, he added.

Anyone with information that may assist police should call detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command on 020 8721 4054.
