Brave workers at a children’s hospice ushered people to safety after a knifeman stabbed four women in a Sainsbury’s car park in south-west London.

Staff members at Shooting Star Chase children’s hospice, which is just a stone’s throw away from the supermarket, rushed to help after hearing screams as bereaved parents attended a memory day.

The workers led one of the injured women to the hospice and the nursing team administered emergency first aid before paramedics arrived.

All four women injured in the attack were taken to hospital and are now in stable conditions.

Sandi Hillery, head of care at Shooting Star Chase, said: “The staff also ushered members of the public who had witnessed the attacks behind the building’s security gates to prevent further attacks while the man was still in the area.

“Staff and families connected to Shooting Star Chase are safe following the incident and our thoughts are with the victims of the attack after such a traumatic event.”

The attack outside the supermarket took place as bereaved families were at the hospice for a memory day – where parents and siblings return to the hospice to remember children who have died.

He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody to appear at Kingston Crown Court on June 17.
