A football fan was stabbed to death on the Tube in an unprovoked attack as he made his way to Arsenal’s match at the Emirates Stadium.

Tashan Daniel, 20, was the second young man killed in London in two hours yesterday as 2019’s murder rate overtook last year’s 10-year high.

Passengers screamed in terror as Mr Daniel, who was with a friend, was attacked on the Metropolitan line train in Hillingdon at about 4pm.

Medics battled to save him as he lay in a pool of blood but he was pronounced dead at the scene. British Transport Police said he was killed in an “unprovoked” attack.

His killing means 111 murder investigations have been launched so far this year, above the 108 reached by September 25, 2018. By the end of last year there had been 134 homicides, the highest figure in a decade.

Witnesses today told how passengers ran screaming from Hillingdon station as Mr Daniel was knifed following an altercation on the westbound train.

Hibo Ali, 32, said: “I walked into the station as everyone was running out, screaming. About 30 people came towards me.

“There was a woman on the floor in tears. She told me that the boys waited for the train to stop, stabbed him and then ran out of the station with everyone else. They had all been on the train together apparently. There was a big pool of blood and the staff were performing CPR on him. I went down the stairs into the station and everyone was telling us to leave.”

Jamie Johnston, 27, added: “The guys ran out the station and straight towards my estate and took some clothes off someone’s washing line to hide the blood on themselves.”

The station had reopened this morning and a BTP van was parked outside.

Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson from BTP said: “This was a shocking act of violence which has seen a man tragically lose his life.

“While we are at the early stages of our investigation, we believe a group of young men were involved in an altercation on the platform before one received a fatal stab wound.”

In a separate incident, a 22-year-old man was stabbed to death at about 6pm.

Scotland Yard also launched a murder investigation in Ealing yesterday after company director Serafima Meshaka, 58, was found dead with head injuries at her £900,000 flat in Haven Green Court on Wednesday last week.

Anyone with information on the Hillingdon Tube murder should call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 382 of 24/09/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
