Police have uncovered a huge "cannabis factory" in a quiet cul-de-sac in south-east London.

Officers discovered the suspected drugs factory after storming a house in Keynsham Gardens, Eltham, at about 10am on Tuesday.

Police said the entire top half of the house had been converted for the purposes of growing cannabis.

Scores of living plants and many which were being dried were found, police said.

The haul was estimated to be worth about £40,000 on the street.

Officers raided the property after receiving a tip-off that it was being used to grow the Class B drug.

Sergeant Benjamin Faxon, from the local Safer Neighbourhoods Team in Eltham West, said: “Cannabis factories pose a serious fire risk not only to the property they are being cultivated in but also to neighbouring properties as well.

“This is an excellent result for the local community who we depend upon to provide us with information about crime and anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhood.”

A man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.
