A mentally-ill man who absconded from a south London secure unit has a history of violence and should not be approached, police have warned.

Abdul Nahar was wearing flips flops when he was last seen yesterday at 12.16pm in Burntwood Lane, Wandsworth.

Police described the 26-year-old, who is known to visit the Westminster area, as 5ft 7ins tall, with a beard and black hair.

When he escaped, Nahar was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a blue jacket.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Abdul has mental health issues and is a risk to the public and himself. The public are advised not to approach him."

He added: "Anyone who knows of Abdul's whereabouts is asked to call 999 immediately as he has a history of violence and could pose a threat if confronted."
