A thug who repeatedly stabbed a reveller in the face at Notting Hill Carnival has been jailed for 14 years.

Kirt Waldron, 38, launched an "apparently unprovoked" knife attack on a 41-year-old man at last year’s carnival, police said.

He punched the victim in the face, breaking his jaw, and then pulled a knife and stabbed him three times near his right eye.

The victim, from Southall, west London, required specialist treatment from an eye hospital for his injuries.

Police said he was waiting for friends in St Charles Square at about 3.30pm on Monday, August 25, when Waldron approached and asked where he was from.

Waldron launched his attack after the man said he was from Grenada, before running off when a woman alerted police.

PC Kendal Moore, from the Notting Hill Carnival Investigation Team, said: "The victim was out enjoying himself on the Bank Holiday Monday of the Notting Hill Carnival. Waldron attacked him.

"The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for three lacerations above his right eye and a fractured jaw.

"Following complications he had to seek further treatment from a specialist eye hospital. Fortunately he has made a full recovery since the assault.

"This attack could have had been far worse had it not been for a member of the public who intervened and alerted police officers.

"With this year's Notting Hill Carnival only weeks away, I hope this sends a clear message that knives will not be tolerated and anyone found to be carrying a knife will be arrested.

"Waldron now has 14 years in prison to think about the consequences of his actions."

Waldron, of Buttermere Close, Bermondsey, was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent at Isleworth Crown Court on July 30.
