A second man has been charged over the murder of 21-year-old Jamal Mahmoud who was stabbed to death at Pentonville prison.

Mr Mahmoud, who had just become a father, was killed in an attack at the north London jail on Tuesday, October 18.

The prisoner was jailed for six years and six months in July as one of two gang members sentenced after hiding a loaded Skorpion machine gun and ammunition in a garden in Enfield.

He was already serving five-and-a-half years in prison for a separate robbery.

Robert Butler, 30, was charged with murder on Tuesday.

Basana Kimbembi, 34, was also charged with murder on Friday, October 21.

He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 27 and will appear at the Old Bailey via videolink on January 23.

Mr Mahmoud was being held in the prison’s G wing, where two men escaped from on Monday morning.
