A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash with a car on a busy road in Chelsea.
The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 30s, was involved in a collision with a car on the King’s Road on Thursday morning.
Medics fought to save the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene outside Chelsea Town Hall.
Firefighters erected blue tarpaulin on the pavement as paramedics treated the biker.
Scotland Yard said the driver of the car, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.
Emergency services raced to the scene of the crash at the junction with Sydney Street at about 9.40am.
Karolina Kaczor told the Standard she witnessed the paramedics trying to save the life of the motorcyclist.
She said traffic was at a standstill from the King’s Road to Sloane Square after the crash.
A witness, tweeting under the name Zac, posted a picture of the crash scene.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman: "London Ambulance Service attended and treated the motorcyclist, aged in his 30s, at the scene. He was pronounced dead a short while later.
"The 47-year-old driver of the car stopped at the scene. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
"He has been taken to a west London police station for questioning.
"King’s Road eastbound remains closed. King’s Road westbound is open but traffic is slow moving. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
"Enquiries continue."
