A knife-wielding man has been arrested following a 'stand-off' with armed police in north-west London.

Met police officers were in talks with the man since 3.45pm this afternoon following reports of a disturbance in Headstone Lane, Harrow.

It is understood a second man was treated by London Ambulance Service for minor injuries.

A spokesman for the police said the man was behaving “very erratically” and potentially suffers from mental health issues.

A police statement said: “There is a man who has armed himself with a knife. Officers are down there trying to talk him out of the building."

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We sent a responder by car, two ambulance crews, London Air Ambulance and a duty staff.

"Our staff treated a man, reported to be in his 30s, and he was taken to hospital."

She said an ambulance crew and duty officers remained at the scene on standby.

Some witnesses said the man was armed with a gun, but police confirmed it was a knife.
