A 27-year-old man has been arrested in east London on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts, police said.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command arrested the man just after 3pm on Friday.

He was detained on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of a terrorist act and remains in custody in a south London police station.

As part of the same operation and at around the same time, a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of having information about acts of terrorism.

Police are searching the house in north London where she was arrested and three further addresses in east London.
