A 61-year-old man was today arrested on suspicion of terror offences after a raid in Kensington.

Scotland Yard said the man was held after counter-terror officers stormed an address on Monday afternoon.

The man was detained on suspicion of “possessing an article for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism”.

He is being held in custody whilst the property is being searched. The offence for which he has been arrested is not thought to be Syria-related.

The latest arrest comes after detectives foiled a plot to launch an Islamic State attack in the UK last week.

The current terror threat level in Britain is considered severe, meaning that an attack is highly likely.

Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said recently that it is a matter of “when, not if” an IS outrage is carried out in Britain.

More armed officers have been deployed across London and the Met recently revealed details of the force’s new specialist counter terror firearms officers who are trained to reach incidents and confront gunmen within minutes using high powered motorcycles.
