A couple watching the Manchester derby in an Islington pub were both brutally punched in the face.
The husband and wife, who are both teachers, had been watching the Manchester United vs Manchester City football match at The Millers Pub in Caledonian Road when a man became verbally abusive.
They decided to leave at about 2.30pm and the man punched both of them before walking out of the pub.
Police were called at about 4.30pm on Saturday, September 10 to reports of fighting.
They found a 45-year-old man suffering from a swollen right eye and a 46-year-old woman suffering from a swollen left eye.
Both were taken to hospital. The man sustained significant injuries to his eye and has had a titanium plate fitted to its socket.
Detectives from Islington Borough CID are investigating.
Officers have released a CCTV image of the man that they want to speak to regarding the attack.
DC Adrian Safiani, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a horrible assault on what should have been a relaxing afternoon out.
"The injured man now suffers from visual impairment after having a titanium plate fitted to his eye socket. We are keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the male on the image or anyone who witnessed the incident."
There have been no arrests at this time and enquiries continue.
