Moment man armed with two bottles of petrol threatens to 'blow up' Morrisons supermarket in Holloway

This is the moment a man armed with two bottles of petrol threatened to kill police and “blow up” a supermarket in north London last night.

The 29-year-old man was arrested after a short stand-off with officers in an aisle of Morrisons supermarket in Hertslet Road, Holloway.

A witness told how earlier he saw the man aproach an Uber driver at a petrol station on the Holloway Road as he was filling his car with fuel.

The man grabbed the hose from the driver filled two small bottles with petrol before walking off.

Leigh Adams, 36, called police and followed the man in his car as he walked down the street, walking in and out of Holloway Road Tube station, before entering Morrisons.

He said : “As police came running in he went absolutely crazy saying I will kill you all, he threw fuel on the floor and was swearing and talking about killing people.”

Mr Adams, a store detective, posted a video of the police stand-off on Twitter showing officers ushering frightened shoppers to safety as the man stood shouting in the aisle.

He said the man threatened to blow up the store but gave up when two officers drew Taser guns.

The Met said a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence after police were called to a disturbance at the store at 7.55pm.

A sp[okesman said: “Officers attended and found a man behaving in a threatening and aggressive manner.

"After a short period of communication with officers the 29-year-old man became compliant to instructions and was arrested on suspicion of public order offence and theft of petrol.”

He added that Taser was not used and there no injuries.
