A man has been arrested at Heathrow station after armed police were called to reports of an attack on a Tube train today.

Police said a 63-year-old man suffered cuts to his face and body after the attack on a Victoria Line train at Finsbury Park in north London.

Armed officers were then dispatched to hunt for the alleged attacker at King’s Cross station as services on the line were suspended during the dramatic incident at around 3pm.

Witness Liam O’Hare told LBC Radio a “pool of blood” was left on the train as shocked passengers watched in horror as events unfolded.

He said: “I got on the train and didn’t think it looked too serious at the time, but then one of the guys also got on the carriage further down from me and he was in quite bad shape.

“There was blood and things like that on the carriage, so a couple of passengers managed to help him off. It all happened very quickly.”

He added: “Initially it just looked like some kind of fight, but then obviously when you see the blood and other passengers around me were saying that they saw some kind of blade or weapon involved.

“As the train left there was this kind of pool of blood left on the carriage so obviously people were in a state of shock.”

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “A man has been arrested at Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 Underground station on suspicion of GBH after a man was assaulted at Finsbury Park Underground station earlier today.

“British Transport Police detectives will be speaking to the man in due course.

“The assault occurred on the southbound Victoria line platform shortly before 1.45pm. A 63-year-old man was taken to hospital with cuts to his body and face. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

“Armed BTP officers searching for a possible suspect met a southbound Victoria line train at King’s Cross St Pancras Underground station at approximately 3pm.”
