A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two police officers were hit by a car.

The incident happened at Littlehampton, Sussex, in the early hours of this morning.

Police said it is being investigated as a deliberate act.

The officers were carrying out a routine drugs check at the side of the road when a Mercedes-Benz saloon approached at speed and collided with two officers.

A man they were with were also hit.

All three were transported to hospital to be treated for serious injuries which have been deemed non life-threatening.
