Detectives investigating the "unexplained" death of a woman in north London today questioned a man on suspicion of her murder.

The 34-year-old man was held by police after they discovered the body of a 37-year-old woman at a property in Green Lanes yesterday afternoon.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries, Scotland Yard said tonight.

A post-mortem examination has so far failed to reveal how the woman died.

In a statement, the Met said: "A special post-mortem took place on 10 September at Poplar Mortuary - it did not provide a cause of death and we await the results of further tests. The death is being treated as unexplained."

Police in Hackney are investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
