A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead at a flat in Whitechapel.

Abdulqadir Abdullah, 34, is accused of killing the 40-year-old woman, who has not been named by police, at a block of flats in Denning Point on Commercial Street.

He is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court today.

Police were called to the property in east London on Saturday at 11pm after reports of a fight.

They found the woman's body and arrested Abdullah, a Somali national, at the scene.

A post-mortem examination on the body is set to be carried out today. The victim's next of kin have been informed, Scotland Yard said.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Euan McKeeve of the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the murder investigation.

Anyone with information can contact police on 02083453865 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
