A man has been charged with snatching a woman’s handbag as she lay unconscious on the pavement.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was crossing the road in Cambridge Circus on Tuesday morning when she was hit by a gang member on a moped. The masked driver was fleeing from a smash and grab raid at the Dorchester Hotel.

Craig Edwards, 34, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court today charged with theft. Detectives said they do not believe he is connected to the jewel raid.

The woman was taken to hospital following the collision and has since been discharged.

Police continue to appeal for information on the six men who robbed the Dorchester Hotel on June 10.

The gang made off with jewellery worth £150,000 after smashing glass cases in the hotel with sledgehammers.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
