A man has been convicted of shining a laser at a Metropolitan police helicopter as it flew over north west London.

Police said Sanjay Thaker's prank in the early hours of September 26 this year had "endangered" the lives of its officers.

The 32-year-old admitted testing out his green laser device as Scotland Yard's India 99 helicopter flew over his home in Harrow.

Acting Police Sergeant Jamie Kay said: "Laser attacks on aircraft not only endanger aircraft but also endanger lives.

"We are committed to working with our colleagues at the Air Support Unit to arrest and prosecute anyone targeting aircraft with lasers."

Thaker, of Winchester Road, Harrow, pleaded guilty to causing danger to an aircraft at Hendon Magistrates Court on November 27.

He will be sentenced at Harrow Crown Court in January 2015.
