Detectives are investigating after a man was found collapsed in the road in east London shortly after a woman was murdered in the next street.
Police were called to the scene in Valentines Road, Ilford, at 5.30pm yesterday and found a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a nearby by hospital and pronounced dead on arrival.
Shortly after 7pm officers were called to nearby Auckland Road where they found a man lying in the street.
Scotland Yard said that the victims, both in their 20s, where not related but believed to be known to each other.
The man died soon after arriving at the hospital, the Metropolitan police said.
In a statement police said: "Both deaths are being investigated by officers from the Homicide & Major Crime Command based at Barking.
"The death of the woman, who had suffered multiple stab wounds, is being treated as murder.
"At this early stage, there is no evidence to suggest that the death of the man is suspicious.
"Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances."
Police added that the bodies have not yet been formally identified and post-mortems are due to take place.
