A man was found in the street after being stabbed "multiple times" in east London.

The victim, aged in his 30s, was rushed to hospital after being discovered on Wanstead Park Avenue, in Wanstead.

Police were called to the scene at around 5pm on Thursday afternoon. A crime scene is in place and no-one has yet been arrested.

The news comes after six people were stabbed in the capital on Tuesday.

The London Assembly’s Police and Crime Committee recently said it wanted answers about why the increase in violence was happening and “why policing tactics are failing and what can be done to keep Londoners safe”.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has come under increasing pressure to provide police with better support to tackle spiralling violent crime.

Appearing on LBC on Thursday, Mr Khan said his team had "done nothing wrong" in its attempts to combat gun and knife crime.
