A 23-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed on a train bound for London on Tuesday evening.

Police were today investigating after the knife attack on board a service from Gillingham to Victoria.

The victim was stabbed as the train was arriving at Swanley station in Kent at around 8.15pm, according to detectives.

He was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Andy Rose, of the British Transport Police, said: “I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, and has not yet come forward to police, to do so as a matter of urgency.

“We treat all incidents involving knives extremely seriously and the public can be assured that we are doing all we can to find the person responsible.”

Police are currently probing CCTV footage of the incident, which saw the train taken out of service.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0800 40 50 40 or 61016, quoting S/B6 of 08/04/2015.
