A dangerous serial predator who raped a woman he met in a supermarket has been jailed for 16 years.

Milton Brown, 68, was imprisoned back in 1999 for raping three women, including his ex-girlfriend.

He was released from prison seven years early and went on to attack another woman he met in a supermarket in Hackney in May last year.

He invited the 29-year-old back his flat, plying her with drugs and alcohol, before putting her in a headlock and raping her.

She managed to escape when she convinced him to go with her to the supermarket to buy cigarettes.

The victim managed to flee Mr Brown and told Thames Water engineers what had happened as they repaired pipes at night on Seven Sisters Road.

She was taken to a sexual assault centre on May 4 where she was supported by specialist officers.

Police began a manhunt and conducted proactive patrols in the area alongside phone data analysis. They visited several addresses linked to Mr Brown and through this, he became aware he was wanted by police.

Brown handed himself into Stoke Newington Police Station on Tuesday, May 11 and was subsequently arrested for rape.

Brown was sentenced to prison for two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of assault by penetration on Friday, August 6. He will remain on licence for a further four years.

Detective Sergeant Simon Fields, who led the investigation, described Brown as a “highly dangerous predator”

I would like to praise the victim for showing such bravery and courage throughout this investigation,” he said.

"There was also a victim from a previous crown court trial that Brown was acquitted for in 2019, who came to court and bravely gave evidence of this previous investigation to support the crown’s bad character application against Milton Brown.

“I hope the considerable prison sentence given to Brown reflects the dedication of officers to bring justice to victims of serious sexual offences, and encourages those impacted by similar crimes to come forward and report them to police."

Mr Brown has an extensive history of attacking women which dates back to the 1990s.

He was jailed for 21 years for raping one woman and sexually assaulting another after enticing them back to his flat after nights out, as well as a savage attack on his then-girlfriend Susan McDonald, who tragically took her own life.

The trial attracted the attention of former Prime Minister Tony Blair and triggered a change in law for sexual assault cases, as Mr Brown sacked his legal team and spent five days cross-examining the three victims himself.

Defendants accused of sexual offences were subsequently banned from questioning their own victims, after a High Court judge ruled it amounted to “second rape”.

A detective on that case branded Mr Brown “the most evil man I have ever come across”.

A sentencing judge said he lacked “the feature that distinguishes man from beast - namely humanity”.

Mr Brown was released early from prison after serving 14 years of his sentence.

Following his release, he told The Sun he deserved to be free, declaring: “I’ve changed.”
