Flying squad detectives are investigating an armed raid on a Co-op in which a worker was stabbed in the stomach.

The terrifying attack took place at the Co-op in Elmers End Road, Anerley, just after 10pm last night and saw workers held up at gunpoint while the gang stole cash.

The stabbed man is seriously injured in hospital.

“Staff were closing the shop,” said a Met spokesman. “One member of staff had gone to the rear of the premises where he was confronted by two men.

“One of the men stabbed the 35-year-old staff member in the stomach and hand. The second man had a handgun which he used to threaten members of staff.

“Both men entered the store and stole cash.

“They then left the store and drove off in a waiting car.

“Police and London Ambulance Service were called. The victim of the stabbing was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.”

No one has been arrested over the raid.
