A man has been stabbed multiple times in a fight outside a Lebanese restaurant in south west London.

The 23-year-old victim was attacked in Tolworth Broadway, Kingston close to the Rose Kitchen restaurant just before 6pm this evening.

He was taken to a south London hospital in a critical condition, a spokesman for Scotland Yard said.

His alleged attacker, a 21-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and taken for questioning at Kingston police station.

Local police officers posted details of the attack on social media.

Sergeant Sean Carpenter tweeted: "Serious assault outside Blockbusters, 122-124 Tolworth Broadway around 1756 hours Suspect arrested and in custody @ Kingston."

He added: "Tolworth Broadway now closed for crime scenes. Please check if travelling in the area. Vehicles and pedestrians affected. #Kingston."

The road was closed northbound while police investigated.
