A man who pushed a 93-year-old woman over during an attempted burglary has been jailed.
Monir Saleh, 27, of Patmore Estate, Wandsworth, approached the victim from behind as she was walking to bins outside her home in Clapham
Inner London Crown Court heard Saleh pushed her back inside her own home, causing her to fall to the floor, before he ransacked her shopping trolley.
He then escaped down a fire escape at the back of the property after the victim began screaming and alerted her neighbours.
CCTV footage caught Saleh entering the premises and he was identified following an appeal in the media.
He was sentenced to three years and four months in jail following a hearing at Inner London Crown Court yesterday.
Sentencing Saleh, Judge Usha Karu said "I do not understand why you were trying to get into a residential care home for over 55's. I have no doubt the victim must have been terrified, shocked and disturbed - it is more by luck than anything else that she received no physical injury.”
Detective Constable Luke Bielby from the Lambeth Robbery Squad said: “This was a nasty attack that left the victim extremely shaken, so I am especially pleased that Saleh will be serving a lengthy sentence for what he has have done. Lambeth is a safer place with him behind bars.”
