Police have launched a manhunt after a train passenger bit another man's ear in a row over a loud phone call.

The attacker became annoyed by the volume of a conversation being had by the victim's friend.

He complained to the pair and a row erupted.

During the verbal altercation the attacked leaned over and bit the victim's ear, British Transport Police said.

Detectives today released an image of a man they would like to speak to over the attack, after which the man involved eventually let go of the victim and calmly returned to his seat.

The incident took place on the 11.40pm Southern Rail service between London Bridge and Peckham Rye on October 6.

The victim and his friend left the train at Peckham Rye shortly after. He sustained a deep cut to his ear and required hospital treatment.

Officers would like to speak to the man shown in the CCTV image as he may have information which could help the investigation.

If you recognise him, call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 376 – 08/10/2017.
