Police have launched a hunt for two suspects after a man was stabbed in the eye in an alleged “targeted” attack that has left him in danger of losing his sight.

CCTV images of two men have been released after the 20-year-old was allegedly attacked with a machete and a knife outside a Co-op store in Chingford, north east London.

Meanwhile video footage obtained from the store appears to show two suspects lunging at the victim with weapons outside.

Emergency services were called to the shop in Hatch Lane after the man entered with his face covered in blood, police said.

He rushed to an east London hospital by the LAS with life changing injuries.

Police said he was since been discharged, but requires a number of operations on the injured eye and could lose the sight in the left eye altogether.

Detective Constable Stephen Eyres, of Waltham Forest CID, said: "This was a targeted attack. The victim was ambushed by two men who were intent on causing him serious harm.

"It was a particularly violent attack which has resulted in the victim requiring numerous operations on the injured eye and he could lose the sight in the left eye altogether.

"We are appealing for any information as to the identity of these two suspects."

The first suspect is described as a white man, aged in his late teens to early 20s. He was wearing a dark hooded top with grey shoulders, dark tracksuit trousers and grey trainers.

The second is described as a black man, also aged in his late teens to early 20s. He was wearing a dark hooded top and grey trousers.

The incident, which happened on Friday December 15 at about 10.30pm, is believed to have started in nearby Ashwood Road.

No arrests have been made, police said.
