Film director Michael Winner’s widow was beaten with a crowbar during a terrifying three hour raid on her £4m London home.

Geraldine Winner, 75, was rushed to hospital after a man and a woman broke into her luxury flat in Knightsbridge on Friday night.

The widow was hit over the head with the crow bar and reportedly forced to hand over possessions and show the robbers where she kept her jewellery.

Police said the two robbers attacked Geraldine at around 10pm on Friday, but did not flee the scene until between 1am and 2am that night.

Officers were called to the luxury flat later that night, and Geraldine was taken to hospital by ambulance. She is in a stable condition.

Geraldine was widowed when her flamboyant food critic and director husband – who she married in 2011 after knowing him since she was just 16 – died aged 77 in 2013. He is understood to have left behind debts of up to £12million after enjoying a lavish and opulent lifestyle.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a flat in SW7 at approximately 2am on Saturday, October 10, to reports of an aggravated burglary at the property.

“Two suspects – a male and a female – forced their way into the home of a woman in her 70s and assaulted her with an iron bar before stealing a number of items at approximately 10pm on Friday, October 9.

“It is believed the suspected left between 1am and 2am on Saturday, October 10.

“The London Ambulance Service was called to the scene as well, and one woman was taken to a west London hospital by ambulance.”

Police said there have been no arrests so far and the investigation is continuing.
