A Met Police officer who repeatedly raped a woman during a nine-month campaign of abuse was dubbed a "monster" as he was jailed for 16 years.

PC Mike Graham, 49, tied up the woman, choked her until she struggled to breathe, and brutally attacked her at least a dozen times, ignoring her cries for help and pleas for him to stop.

She said the sexual abuse happened regularly at his then-home in Uxbridge, where he satisfied his cravings for violent sadomasochistic sex.

Graham claimed the sex was consensual, but some of the attacks were recorded on the woman’s iPhone on an app designed to capture sleep-talking or snoring.

The phone, which was sat on the bedside, was automatically activated by her cries for help and kept a recording of what happened.

At the sentencing hearing this morning, the woman broke down in tears as she told Graham the impact of his abuse.

"You told me as a police officer you could do as you liked, that no one would believe me and you would tell your colleagues I was mental", she said.

"You threatened to kill me and dispose of the evidence - it is a tremendous abuse of power."

She said Graham scared her so much she would start shaking when she saw him, adding: "I feel you have behaved like a monster."

The woman also told the court she lived in fear that Graham would come after her even after his arrest, and said she can no longer listen to music or watch television "in case I can't hear you breaking in to kill me".

Graham, who was based with Hounslow Police, will be now sacked by the Met Police.

He denied all charges against him but was convicted of seven counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault by the jury yesterday.

Judge Peter Rook QC said: "This was a series of brutal rapes.

"These offences were committed against a woman who from the time of the first rape on Christmas Eve was terrified of you."

During the trial, the victim told how Graham, a former Royal Marine, bound her to the bed, hit her across the buttocks, and pinned her down during the attacks, between Christmas Eve 2013 and September 2014.

Prosecutor Eloise Marshall said Graham “enjoyed hurting her more and more” and like to grab her round the throat “for sexual gratification”.

“Some of the offences were captured on the sleep app on her phone”, she said.

“It’s plain from these recordings that at times sexual assaults are taking place. He is hurting her and she doesn’t want him to do certain acts.

“The defendant knew she wasn’t consenting and she didn’t want him to do these things, but he continued regardless, using fear and submission to his own ends.”

On the tapes played in court, the woman cries “please don’t do that” and “stop it”, but Graham tried to claim this was part of a role playing game.

“She described her memory of the sexual events like a big washing machine going around and around in her head”, added Ms Marshall.

“During one incident she was wearing a dress which he just ripped off.”

Graham, of Croft Road, Poole, in Dorset, was found guilty of seven counts of rape and one sexual assault.

He was acquitted of two more charges of rape.
