A woman has died nine days after a driver ploughed into her tent at a campsite in Wales, police have said.

Anna Roselyn Evans, 46, was left in a critical condition after the incident at the Rhyd y Galen site near Caernarfon on August 19.

A vehicle drove onto the site in the early hours, leaving four other campers injured in their tents.

Detective Inspector Andy Gibson of North Wales Police said: “Our thoughts are with Mrs Evans’ family and friends at this very sad and distressing time for them.

“The investigation into this tragic incident continues and we are liaising closely with the Crown Prosecution Service.”

Three other people injured in the incident have been discharged from hospital.

Jake Waterhouse, 26, from the Greater Manchester was remanded in custody after appearing before Llandudno Magistrates Court last week charged with driving offences.

He admitted the crash at the beauty spot, telling the court he needed to be "punished”.

The 26-year-old had been drinking heavily before borrowing his friend’s Subaru Impreza and driving it through the campsite in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, Llandundo Magistrates heard.

Emergency services were called to the campsite, which describes itself as a “tranquil getaway”, at around 2am.

Carys Parry, defending, said Waterhouse took “full responsibility for the devastating events at the campsite”.

“He is truly and deeply remorseful for his actions,” she added.

“His thoughts the last two days have been with the victim of his offending and her family.

“He accepts he is facing a lengthy sentence as a result of his actions. In his own words, he said: ‘I deserve to be punished’.”

Waterhouse, of Partington, Manchester, was remanded in custody to appear at Caernarfon Crown Court on September 23.

A second man has been released under investigation over the incident, pending further enquiries.

Tributes have since been paid to Ms Evans, with social media users sending love and condolences to her family.

One Facebook user wrote to her husband Huw Evans: "We are all so desperately sorry here, sending love and prayers for you all there, much love."

"Anything you need just ask, we'll be there for you," wrote another.
