A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a missing Lithuanian man was found in a stream.

Evaldas Svolkinas, 34, a carpenter from Dorking Rise, Romford, Essex, was last seen at 6.15am on Thursday, Scotland Yard said.

He did not go to work and was reported missing to police the following day.

Police were called to Wincanton Road in Romford at 10.25am on Sunday after a body was found in the nearby Carter's Brook stream.

The man was identified as Mr Svolkinas, and a post-mortem examination on Monday found he died from severe head injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones said: "We are anxious to trace the victim's movements between Thursday morning and when he was found on Sunday.

"Did you see him? Do you have any information? If so, please come forward."

Anyone with information should call police on 020 8345 3734 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
