Police launched a murder inquiry today after a woman was stabbed to death in the street in east London.

The woman, who was in her mid 20s, was attacked in Ilford Lane at around 12.15am and managed to stagger to a near-by fast food shop before collapsing. Paramedics treated her at the scene and she was rushed to hospital but died at about 2am.

Police said they were trying to establish the woman’s identity this morning. There were no arrests.

The incident took place at the junction of Ilford Lane and Loxford Lane in Ilford.

The street was closed in both directions this morning as forensic officers searched for clues.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
