A murder probe has been launched after a woman was found stabbed to death in a busy west London road.

The woman, aged in her 40s, collapsed in Alexandra Avenue, Harrow, just after 7.45am this morning.

She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in an ambulance where she died of her injuries at 11.39am.

Police said a man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the murder and was taken to a north London police station.

Officers believe they know the identity of the woman and enquiries are underway to trace next of kin.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Bonner is appealing for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “Alexandra Avenue is a busy thoroughfare and I am sure that there will have been people who may have witnessed all or some of the incident who are yet to come forward. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between 7.30am and 7.50am this morning to contact police."

Any witnesses with information should call the incident room on 0208 358 0200 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
