A murder investigation has been launched after a body was found in Epping Forest this week.
Police discovered the body partially buried and wrapped in plastic close to Hollow Ponds in Whipps Cross Road on Wednesday evening.
The body of a man, which was decomposed, was removed from the area on Thursday, September 10.
Officers investigating said it was not currently known how long the body had been at the scene.
The man’s next of kin have been informed.
A post-mortem examination has taken place but a Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said the result would not be released at this stage due to "operational reasons".
Detectives have today launched a murder probe and are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information on any suspicious activity in the Hollow Ponds area over the last few weeks.
Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “Hollow Ponds is a busy and popular local beauty spot, with a café and a boating lake. It is also surrounded by a number of busy roads, including Whipps Cross Road.
“We would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area the last several weeks, and may have witnessed any unusual or suspicious activity, to come and speak to us.”
No arrests have been made.
