Police have launched a murder investigation after a man found "shaking in bed" following an assault died.

The 59-year-old was rushed by ambulance to an east London hospital on Sunday evening after suffering serious injuries, police said.

Doctors called Scotland Yard just after midnight and officers went to the victim's home in Stern Close, Barking, east London.

There they were told that the victim had gone to bed the previous night and "was then found in the morning shaking in bed, with blood coming from his nose."

The victim died from his injuries in hospital at 4.37pm on Tuesday.

His home is being treated as a crime scene. A man, 48, and two women, 51 and 34, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The man remains in custody at a north London police station while the two women have been released under investigation.

A post-mortem investigation will take place on Thursday.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
