Police are investigating after shots were fired and blood found on the pavement in a "quiet and leafy" street in east London.

Officers were called to Norcott Road in Stoke Newington just after 1pm following reports of a shooting.

The road was sealed off as police scoured the area and forensics officers looked at a patch of blood and a bullet casing found on the ground.

A mother-of-two said it was a "terrible shock" to be told by police that the shooting happened right outside her front door.

The woman, 34, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Standard: "Being told someone has been shot on my street is dreadful.

"We have two small children and we moved to our street specifically because it's quiet and tree-lined and a wonderful place to raise a family.

"Children literally play in the street on Norcott and the south side is packed with families, so the thought of what happened is especially horrifying in light of that.

"This will be a terrible shock for everyone."

The resident said she had to be escorted home by police through the cordon and past blood on the pavement outside her front door.

She added: "Later a police officer came to my door and said that a firearm was discharged directly in front of my house at around 1pm.

"The police photographer then came to get photos of the blood and also a casing in the road."

A spokeswoman for the Met said no suspects or victims have been found.
