North London optician and butcher accused of trafficking woman

Six people have been charged with crimes including raping, assaulting and threatening to kill an Indian woman allegedly trafficked into Britain.

The suspects, including a computer entrepreneur, a butcher, a supermarket manager and a female optician, are accused of a total of 17 offences.

The six, who are of Indian origin, are all charged with trafficking the 37-year-old woman into the UK for exploitation.

Shanaz Begum, 56, a shop worker, faces two counts.

Her husband Enkarta Balapovi, a 53-year-old butcher from St John’s Wood, is also accused of five counts of rape.

A second couple, Shashi Kala Obhrai, 53, an optician, and her husband Balram Kumar Obhrai, 58, a computer entrepreneur, of Northwood in north-west London, are both also charged with threatening to kill the woman.

Mrs Obhrai faces a further charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on her.

Aleemuddin Mohammed, 34, a supermarket manager from Harrow, is charged with sexual assault.

His ex-wife Shamina Yousuf, a 32-year-old secretary from Edgware, is charged with ABH.

They will all appear at Westminster magistrates’ court on June 7.
